60-year-old Sultana Begum is living a very simple life in Howrah, near Kolkata, West Bengal.
She does not live in a magnificent palace, but in a small two-room house where even meeting basic needs has become a challenge.
Sultana Begum say, She is forced to live like an ordinary Indian.
She is facing severe difficulties in meeting daily expenses.

Grandmother OF Sultana Begum’s WAS the daughter-in-law of Bahadur Shah Zafar.
She married to Prince Mirza Bidar Bakht, who died in the 1980s. Her problems increased after her husband’s death.
Struggling financially
She was struggling financially. She has six children and receives a monthly pension of only INR 6,000 from the government, which is not enough to support the family.
Her unmarried daughter Madhu Begum lives with her in Kolkata, while her other children also face financial difficulties.
Sultana Begum says she is proud of her royal lineage.
She faces serious obstacles in finding employment. She tried to earn a living by setting up a tea stall and making women’s clothes.
These efforts did not prove to be very successful.
In 1837, Bahadur Shah Zafar ascended the throne and the Mughal Empire was on the verge of collapse.
However, its glory was still there. He chose to lead the revolutionaries in the 1857 War of Independence. The British government brutally crushed the rebellion. After war, he was arrested and custody to Yangon in Burma (now Myanmar), where he died in 1862.
The current state of his family highlights the fact that the heirs of the last king of the empire that once defined India. Now forced to live a modest life.

وہ کسی شاندار محل میں نہیں رہتی بلکہ دو کمروں کے ایک چھوٹے سے گھر میں رہتی ہے جہاں بنیادی ضروریات کو پورا کرنا بھی ایک چیلنج بن گیا ہے۔
سلطانہ بیگم کا کہنا ہے کہ وہ ایک عام ہندوستانی کی طرح زندگی گزارنے پر مجبور ہیں۔
روزمرہ کے اخراجات پورے کرنے میں شدید مشکلات کا سامنا ہے۔
ان کے آباؤ اجداد کی شاہانہ زندگی اب کتابوں، کہانیوں اور فلموں تک محدود ہو کر رہ گئی ہے جبکہ حقیقت میں ان کے خاندان کے افراد بنیادی سہولیات سے بھی محروم ہیں۔
سلطانہ بیگم کی دادی بہادر شاہ ظفر کی بہو تھیں۔ اس کی شادی شہزادہ مرزا بیدار بخت سے ہوئی، جن کا انتقال 1980 کی دہائی میں ہوا۔ شوہر کے انتقال کے بعد اس کی مشکلات میں اضافہ ہو گیا

وہ مالی مشکلات کا شکار تھی۔
اس کے چھ بچے ہیں اور اسے حکومت سے صرف6000 کی ماہانہ پنشن ملتی ہے، جو خاندان کی کفالت کے لیے کافی نہیں ہے

ان کی غیر شادی شدہ بیٹی مدھو بیگم ان کے ساتھ کولکتہ میں رہتی ہیں، جب کہ ان کے دیگر بچوں کو بھی مالی مشکلات کا سامنا ہے

سلطانہ بیگم کا کہنا ہے کہ انہیں اپنے شاہی نسب پر فخر ہے۔
اسے روزگار کی تلاش میں شدید رکاوٹوں کا سامنا ہے۔ اس نے چائے کا اسٹال لگا کر اور خواتین کے کپڑے بنا کر روزی کمانے کی کوشش کی۔
یہ کوششیں زیادہ کامیاب ثابت نہیں ہوئیں۔ 1837ء میں بہادر شاہ ظفر تخت نشین ہوئے اور مغلیہ سلطنت تباہی کے دہانے پر پہنچ گئی۔
تاہم اس کی شان و شوکت ابھی باقی تھی۔ انہوں نے 1857 کی جنگ آزادی میں انقلابیوں کی قیادت کرنے کا انتخاب کیا۔
برطانوی حکومت نے اس بغاوت کو بے دردی سے کچل دیا۔ جنگ کے بعد، اسے گرفتار کر کے برما (موجودہ میانمار) کے ینگون میں جلاوطن کر دیا گیا، جہاں اس کی موت 1862 میں ہوئی۔
ان کے خاندان کی موجودہ حالت اس حقیقت کو اجاگر کرتی ہے کہ سلطنت کے آخری بادشاہ کے وارث جس نے کبھی ہندوستان کی تعریف کی تھی۔ اب معمولی زندگی گزارنے پر مجبور ہیں۔
